Gaumont, the renowned film and television production and distribution company based in Paris and Los Angeles, has retained Parrot Analytics, a leading LA-based data science firm, to quantify cross-platform, country-specific audience demand for its roster of established and new television shows.
According to Parrot Analytics’ data, the launch of season three of Narcos, which premiered on Netflix September 1 in the U.S., was a worldwide success. During its launch week, Narcos was the most popular Digital Original title of any SVOD service in the U.S., with almost double the demand of the next-most popular title, Netflix’s Ozark. During the same week, Narcos also registered as the #1 Digital Original in most major markets, including the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Brazil, Canada, Australia, India and China.
“We are looking to use the data and analysis from Parrot’s audience demand measurement system to support our sales efforts across the globe,” said Tim Stephen, Head of U.S. Business and Legal Affairs for Gaumont. “Especially as Narcos and F is for Family move into new seasons, we are seeking more information on how demand is changing to inform our strategies in each market.”
“We have reached the stage in the content business where consumers are the real drivers of content,” notes Courtney Williams, European Director, Parrot Analytics. “It’s more important than ever to be able to gauge audience demand, especially as series evolve and move into multiple seasons. Continuing to engage viewers and building fan engagement not only supports sales, it justifies the investment in further production. Being able to keep a finger on the pulse of audience demand is essential.”
In addition to the global hit Narcos (Netflix), Gaumont’s other flagship programming includes Hannibal (NBC), F is For Family (Netflix), and Hemlock Grove (Netflix).
Formed in 1895, Gaumont is the first and oldest film company in the world, with offices in Paris and Los Angeles. In the past few years, the company’s release schedule has continued to increase across film and television production, in both the French and English languages.
The film library now encompasses over 1100 titles including films from such prestigious directors as Luc Besson, Matthieu Kassovitz, Francis Veber, Jean-Jacques Beineix, Federico Fellini, Maurice Pialat and Jean-Luc Godard, and more recently Toledano and Nakache for The Intouchables, the highest-grossing French language movie ever with over $450 million in revenue to date.
Gaumont produces and distributes high-quality TV programming worldwide. Key drama series include the award-winning Narcos for Netflix; the critically acclaimed Hannibal; the winner of “Best Series” (Festival of Fiction TV) The Frozen Dead and The Art of Crime, amongst many others.
