Lockdown environment fuels demand for Disney’s highly anticipated subscription service.
Los Angeles – April 15, 2020 Parrot Analytics, the leader in content demand data and analytics, has found that the share of demand for Disney+ is up 7.54% in France since March 11, when the World Health Organization (“WHO”) declared the Coronavirus a global pandemic. While Disney pushed back the launch of its SVOD service in France to April 7, demand for the service registered the largest growth in the three weeks following the WHO declaration compared to the prior three weeks.
“Demand was already climbing for Disney+ in France as anticipation leading up to the original March 23 launch date rose,” notes Steve Langdon, Partnership Director, EMEA, Parrot Analytics. “The delay to April 7 didn’t slow that momentum and, in fact may have increased demand overall. The lockdown had French viewers hungry for shows like The Mandalorian therefore the service launched to an eager audience.”
Disney+ debuted in France with the premiere of Pixar’s new release Onward having just been added to the service. Onward was Disney+’s second new release to arrive to the platform almost immediately after its theatrical release - Frozen II being the first. New series include Paradise Island and Tut’s Treasures: Hidden Secrets.
