Global Demand for Anthology Series

8 March, 2020

A Parrot Quick Insight

The anthology format has a long history of success on television spanning back to the earliest days of TV. While the subject matter of these series can vary widely, the format is a commonality – the tone or theme of the show stays consistent but the plot and characters change each episode or season.

This type of show has experienced a resurgence in the past few years with high profile series such as Black Mirror. More recently, CBS All Access revived the iconic early anthology The Twilight Zone. Apple TV+ has already launched one new anthology series this year, Little America, that has received critical acclaim. It is doubling down on this format with a reboot of Steven Spielberg’s classic anthology series, Amazing Stories.

Below we show the top 10 countries with the highest demand for anthology series. It is notable that Russia has about three times the average demand for anthology series. Both Black Mirror (a sci-fi drama) and The Romanoffs (a family drama) have high demand in this country, despite being English language productions.
