Hungary genre and subgenre preferences
- Hungary had the largest share of demand for animated series in this report. 36.5% of demand for shows in this country was for an animated series.
- Both the science fiction and fantasy genres won over audiences in Hungary where they accounted for a larger share of demand than any other market in this report.
- Horror was another popular genre in Hungary this quarter. 8.0% of demand for shows was for a horror series, above the global share of demand for horror (5.9%).
- The anime subgenre accounted for a larger share of demand in Hungary than in any other market in this report (16.8%).
- Even though there was very high demand in Hungary for anime, this market had the lowest share of demand for cartoons (1.2%) indicating that there is not necessarily high demand for animation across all subgenres here.
- Across most markets, demand for superhero series punches well above its supply share indicating a relatively small number of titles are having an outsize impact on demand. Hungary was one of the markets in this report where superhero series had a share of demand (3.5%) greater than the subgenre’s global share (2.6%).
Hungary originals demand share and digital originals demand distribution
- Tokyo MX ranked second in Hungary in terms of demand for its original content which accounted for 7.4% of demand for shows in Q3 2024.
- Shows from a Disney branded channel or platform made up a larger share of demand in Hungary than in any other market in this report – 4.9%.
- Keeping with the theme of animated content succeeding in Hungary, Cartoon Network originals made up a larger share of demand in Hungary (2.2%) than they did globally (1.6%).
- Netflix’s global hit, Bridgerton, ranked higher in demand in Hungary than any other market in this report. The show was the eighth most in-demand series in Hungary following the conclusion of its third season in June.
- There was high demand for anime in Hungary this quarter. Of these series, My Hero Academia ranked highest as the sixth most in-demand show overall in Hungary for the quarter.
- Hungarian audiences didn’t just love anime but had a broader love of adult animated content. Several animated comedies ranked in the top 20 shows by demand, including Family Guy, South Park, and Rick and Morty.
