- Shows with a majority of female writers had the largest share of demand.
- Female-directed productions saw the largest growth in demand share from 2017 to 2023.
Opportunity Across Scripted and Unscripted
- The supply and demand for scripted and unscripted series with majority female talent behind the camera has grown in the past several years.
- The average demand for unscripted series with a majority female talent behind the camera has risen to the same level as shows where women are underrepresented behind the camera.
Genre Trends for Majority Female Talent Behind the Camera
- The horror genre has seen the greatest growth in demand for productions with majority female talent behind the camera.
- There has been large demand growth for female-led productions across different genres.
Region Specific Trends
- The United States, United Kingdom, Japan, South Korea, and Australia lead in the demand for new series with majority female BTC.
- Latin America has seen the greatest relative growth, with demand increasing fourfold between 2017 and 2023, driven by investments from global streamers
More Inclusive Behind the Camera Talent = Wider Audience Reach
- The average demand for the top 100 most in-demand new shows with a female majority behind the camera has more than tripled from 2017 to 2023.
- Importantly, the demographics for these top 100 shows have become much more balanced. In 2017, two thirds of the audience for these shows was female but by 2023 this was closer to an even gender split in the audiences for these shows.
