At Content Americas 2025, Parrot Analytics' VP of Partnerships Jaime Otero presented a talk on the past, present, and future of the content economy, with a specific focus on global trends for Spanish and Portuguese language content and how these titles are delivering value for streaming services around the world.

Growing Value of Non-English Content
- The global share of streaming revenue generated by non-English titles has been on an upward trajectory
- The share of streaming revenue from non-English titles peaked at over 18% in 2023 before cooling off slightly in 2024
Spanish/Portuguese Language Titles Help Drive Streaming Growth
- A boom in the number of Spanish/Portuguese streaming original titles has helped this content drive more value for platformsIn particular, the rate of groweth of new Spanish/Portuguese originals outpaced other non-English content in 2022.
Spanish/Portuguese Content is Delivering Global Streaming Revenue
- There has been huge growth in the amount of streaming revenue this content is bringing in for major global streamers since 2020.The most successful quarter in 2024 saw Spanish/Portuguese content bring in over half a billion dollars for global streamers. As of Q3 2024, the global streaming revenue brought in by Spanish/Portuguese content was on par with Korean content.
Reina Roja is just one exmaple of a title that is acquiring and retaining subscribers
- Over a year, "Reina Roja" engaged more than 2.5M subscribers on Amazon prime Video globally.This was the most impactful Spanish/Portuguese title in terms of either subscriber acquisition or retention for the platform.
The biggest upside for this content is outside of its home market
- Regions outside of LATAM represent the biggest growth opportunity for SPLATAM content. In particular, APAC has seen the fastest growth in streaming revenue from this content in the pat yearThe most successful content will have global ambitions beyond its home market
Spanish/Portuguese content is an important part of the mix in today's globalized content ecosystem. The number of these titles and the amount of revenue they deliver for streaming platforms has been on the rise. However, the greatest growth potential lies outside of LATAM so the most financially successful titles going forward will need to think globally.
