Peru genre and subgenre preference for series

  • Peru was the most comedy-loving market in this report. More than half of demand for shows (51.2%) was for a comedy series. This was also one of the few markets that had a higher share of demand for comedies than dramas.
  • Peru had the second largest share of demand for animated series in this report, behind only anime-loving Japan. 41.8% of demand in Peru was for an animated series, boosted in particular by high demand for animated children’s content.
  • The crime genre did not resonate with Peruvian audiences. The 8.3% share of demand for these series was the lowest in this repot and less than half the global share for crime series (18.1%).

  • Despite lower demand for dramas generally in Peru, telenovelas are an exception. Telenovelas accounted for 12.3% of demand here which is significantly above the supply share of these titles (2.6%).
  • School age kids’ content has high demand in Peru. The 12.0% share of demand for these shows in this market was the second largest in this report.
  • The teen subgenre also shows room for growth in Peru. These titles make up 1.2% of titles but 3% of demand in this market.

  • Las Estrellas had the largest share of demand for its original series in Peru, 6.9%, greater than any other market in this report.
  • Content from local network, América Televisión, accounted for a 2.8% share of demand for shows in Peru. A larger share of demand than even international content heavyweight, HBO (2.7%).
  • CBS content struggled to break through with audiences in Peru. Only 1.8% of the demand for series in this market was for a CBS original, a lower share for this content than in any other market in this report.

  • The internationally popular telenovela from Las Estrellas, La Rosa de Guadalupe, was the second most in-demand show in Peru in Q1 2024, a higher rank than in any other market we covered.
  • The most in-demand drama from local broadcaster América Televisión was Al Fondo Hay Sitio, which ranked as the 70th most in-demand show in Peru for the quarter.
  • Several Turkish series such as Hudutsuz Sevda, broke through with audiences in Peru in Q1 2024.
