United Arab Emirates genre and subgenre preferences for series

  • The UAE had the second largest share of demand for crime content in this report. 17.9% of demand for shows was for a crime series in Q1 2024.
  • 11.3% of demand for series was for a romance show in the UAE This was below the global share of demand for this type of content, 14.6%.
  • The UAE had the second largest share of demand for game shows across markets in this report. The 5.3% of demand for shows in his genre was also above the global share of demand for game shows (4.1%).

  • Performance content had exceptionally high demand in the UAE 3.3% of demand for series was for this subgenre which is well above the share of supply these titles account for (1.1%).
  • Teen series look to be oversaturated in the UAE where they account for 1.2% of titles but only drive 0.9% of demand for series.
  • The late-night talk show format found fans in the UAE, one of only two markets in this report where the subgenre accounted for over 1% of demand for series. This is well above this subgenre’s 0.2% of supply, indicating room to expand.

United Arab Emirates originals share of demand and demand distribution

  • HBO ranked second in terms of demand share for its original series in the UAE with 5.9% of demand for series being for an HBO show. This was a higher rank for the channel than in any other market in this report.
  • Sony Entertainment Television was able to break into the top 15 channels by demand share in the UAE with a 1.9% share of demand for the quarter. This was the only market in this report where shows from this Indian channel reached this level of demand.
  • Original content from Shahid accounted for 1.8% of demand for all shows in the UAE in Q1 ranking among the top platforms here for the quarter. However, this was still a much smaller demand share for Shahid than in other markets in the region like Saudi Arabia and Egypt.

  • The Iraqi series, Abjad Hawas (ابجد هوس ) premiered in March for Ramadan and had ranked higher in demand in the UAE than in any other market in this report.
  • Kurulus: Osman, which just finished releasing its 5th season in June, ranked as the fourth most in-demand show in the UAE in Q1 2024.
  • Indian content travelled well to the UAE SAB TV’s long-running Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah and Amazon Prime Video’s new original, Indian Police Force, both ranked higher here than in any other market in this report.
