Switzerland genre and subgenre preferences

  • Documentary series performed well in Switzerland for the quarter where they made up 10.4% of demand for all series. This is above the global share of demand for this genre (8.3%).
  • Swiss audiences were some of the least receptive to children’s content. Only 5.4% of demand for shows was for a kids’ series, the lowest share for the genre in this report.
  • Musical content also underperformed in Switzerland. Only 1.7% of demand for shows in this market was for a musical, which is the smallest share in this report and below the global share of demand for this genre (2.1%).

  • Nature content accounts for 1.0% of demand in Switzerland. This is above the global share of demand for this subgenre (0.8%) which points to a particular love of this content in Switzerland.
  • The suspense subgenre made up a lower share of demand in Switzerland than in any other market in this report. This puts the share of demand for this type of content right in line with supply, while in other markets suspense series overperform.
  • Pre-school age series made up a lower share of demand in Switzerland than in any other market in this report. Even so, the share of demand for these shows (1.2%) overperforms their share of titles (0.9%).

Switzerland originals demand share and digital originals demand distribution

  • CBS ranked second in Switzerland in terms of the demand for its original content. 6.0% of demand for shows in Switzerland in Q3 2024 was for a CBS series.
  • Switzerland was one of three markets in this report where Discovery ranked in the top 15 channels or platforms by demand share, accounting for 2.2% of demand for shows. High demand for documentary content likely helped the channel to succeed here.
  • Switzerland was one of only three markets in this report where TV Tokyo ranked in the top 15 channels or platforms by demand share. Notably, the channel’s anime, Spy X Family ranked higher in Switzerland than any other country in this report.

  • The Voice of Switzerland, a local version of the internationally successful franchise had high demand in its home market where it ranked in the top 100 shows by demand for the quarter (#82).
  • American variety series broke through with Swiss audiences. Of these, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver reached the highest rank as the third most in-demand show in Switzerland. The Daily Show and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert also ranked in the top 20 shows.
  • Amazon Prime Video’s Reacher was successful in Switzerland, which was the only market where this show ranked in the top 20 by demand for the quarter.
