Indonesia Genre and Subgenre Preferences for Series

  • Indonesia had the largest share of demand for the action genre of markets in this report. Over a quarter (26.4%) of demand for shows was for an action series in Q2 2024.
  • The fantasy genre accounted for 31% of demand in Indonesia which is the largest in this report and significantly above the global share of demand for this content (21.1%).
  • The talk show genre struggled to break through with audiences in Indonesia. Only 1.4% of
    demand for series was for a talk show which is the lowest share of demand for this genre across markets in this report.

  • Indonesia had over twice the global share of demand for pre-school aged content. 4.3% of
    demand for shows in Indonesia was for the pre-school subgenre compared to 2.1% of demand globally.
  • Indonesia was one of the most receptive markets to business content. Nearly 1% of demand for shows was for a series in this subgenre which is greater than the share of titles that this subgenre accounts for (0.6%).
  • Audiences in Indonesia gave the lowest share of demand for series to the teen subgenre. Only 0.8% of demand for shows was for a teen series.

  • Indonesia was the only market in this report where the channel TVN Korea accounted for a
    significant share of demand (3.0%) outside of its home market of South Korea.
  • TV Tokyo achieved its largest share of demand in Indonesia in this report where it accounted for 3.3% of demand for all shows, reflecting high demand for anime in Indonesia.
    Shows from local broadcaster, SCTV, drove 1.7% of demand for all shows in Indonesia in Q2 2024.
  • This was the only market in this report where it ranked among the top channels in terms of
    demand share.

  • Local Indonesian content excelled in its home market. A series from local broadcaster, Indosiar, Magic 5, was the most in-demand show in Indonesia in Q2 2024.
  • Local broadcaster, RCTI, brought the internationally popular MasterChef format to Indonesia. This transplant has succeeded with local audiences and the show ranked as the 31st most in-demand show here in Q2 2024.
  • Para Pencari Tuhan, from Indonesian network SCTV has aired during Ramadan since 2007. This year the show continued its streak of popularity and ranked among the 100 most in-demand shows of the quarter.
