Ecuador Genre and Subgenre Preferences for Series

  • Ecuador had the largest demand share for the comedy genre in this report. In fact, it was the only market where the comedy genre made up a larger share of demand for shows than the drama genre.
  • Ecuador was the market in this report with the largest share of demand for children’s content. Over a fifth (22.6%) of demand for series in Ecuador was for a kids’ show in Q2 2024.
  • Ecuadorian audiences were the least receptive to the thriller genre in this report. 9.1% of demand for shows was for a thriller, which is less than half the global share of demand for this genre (20%).

  • Ecuador was unique in this report as the only market where soap operas overperformed. 12.2% of demand for shows was for a soap opera, impressive considering these shows only account for around 3% of titles.
  • Content targeting younger audiences (like school age series and cartoons) overperformed in Ecuador. The teen subgenre also succeeded here with the largest demand share in this report (3.3%).
  • The suspense subgenre struggled to break through with Ecuadorian audiences. Less than half a percent of demand for shows was for a suspense series in Ecuador, the lowest demand share for this subgenre in this report.

  • Las Estrellas was the largest channel in terms of demand share for its originals in Ecuador. 9.6% of demand for shows in Ecuador was for a Las Estrellas original.
  • The popularity of kids’ content in Ecuador is evident here. Disney (6.2%), Cartoon Network (3.5%), and Nickelodeon (3.8%) all accounted for a larger share of demand for shows here than in any other market in this report.
  • Telemundo ranked as the fifth largest brand in terms of demand for its original series in Ecuador. 4.1% of demand for all shows was for a Telemundo original.

  • Telenovelas from Las Estrellas won over audiences in Ecuador in Q2 2024. La Rosa de Guadalupe and Vivir de Amor both ranked in the top 20 most in-demand shows for the quarter and higher than in any other market in this report.
  • International dramas from outside of Latin America had high travelability to Ecuador. The long running drama from Spain, Cuéntame Cómo Pasó, ranked higher in Ecuador than any other market in this report.
  • Turkish dramas like Hercai and K-dramas like Queen of Tears also broke through with Ecuadorian audiences, showing that foreign language content can also be highly successful here.
