Indonesia Genre and Subgenre Preferences for Series
- With 23.1% share of demand for the genre, Indonesia was the most animation loving market across all markets in this report.
- Indonesian audiences gave the third largest share of demand to the action and adventure genre in Q3 2022 (8.6%) of all markets in this report.
- Indonesia was the market with the smallest share of demand (8.2%) for the comedy genre in this quarter, far below its global share (13.5%).
- Indonesia was one of three countries in which Japanese Animation was the most in-demand subgenre.
- Following Japanese Animation, Romantic Drama and Crime Drama rounded out the top three most in-demand subgenres.
- The Superhero subgenre ranked fourth in the market this quarter, well above its global rank of ninth.
Indonesia Originals Share of Demand and Demand Distribution
- Netflix made up the largest share of demand in Indonesia this quarter at 8.3%. However, this fell below the global share of demand for the platform’s content (10.2%).
- Audience demand share for broadcasters NBC (2.6%), CBS (3.2%) and Fox (1.9%) in Indonesia all fell below the global demand share’s for each network in Q3 2022.
- Indonesia was one of four markets in this report in which audience demand share for HBO content (3.9%) fell below the platform’s global demand share (4.9%).
- Indonesia is one of just two markets in this report where Stranger Things was not the most in-demand series in Q3 2022. That distinction belongs to SpongeBob SquarePants, which accrued 14.2 times the demand of the average series.
- Indonesia led the field in audience demand share for animation (23.1%) while Japanese animation was its most popular subgenre. Upin & Ipin (2), One Piece (5), Jujutsu Kaisen (7) and Attack on Titan (8) all ranked among the top 10 most in-demand series.
- 45% of the market’s top 20 most in-demand series in Q3 2022 were animated shows.
