US TV Content Ratings Top 10 (December 4–December 10, 2016)

The top shows, both overall and digital originals, are in close competition. Our TV content ratings for the USA reveal that the finale of Westworld last week lifted its demand by 20%; even though demand for last week’s leader The Walking Dead also rose, this increase was enough to make Westworld the most popular show in the United States. In contrast, demand for the revived Gilmore Girls crashed by 62%, allowing Stranger Things‘ modest 15% rise in demand make it the most in-demand digital original series.

Some older digital originals series reappeared in the top 10 this week. The second seasons of both Fuller House and Club de Cuervos were released on December 9th. While Fuller House shot to third place, behind only Stranger Things and Gilmore Girls, Club de Cuervos ranked ninth, perhaps because it is in Spanish and thus less accessible to American audiences. Our TV content ratings measurement also shows that though Amazon’s The Grand Tour also released a new episode this week, its demand dropped by 41%, suggesting that viewers may be abandoning the show.

Overall, a few new series also appeared in the top 10. Arrow joined fellow DC superhero shows The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow after last week’s four-way crossover event on the CW (the fourth show, Supergirl, did not make the top 10). The penultimate episode of Planet Earth II increased its demand significantly, causing it to overtake shows like Pretty Little Liars and The Big Bang Theory in terms of popularity. While not new to the top 10, Shameless’s 15% increase in demand put it ahead of Game of Thrones and third overall, its highest ranking this season.
