For years to come, it will be the gold standard by which all new fantasy shows — and there are a lot — will be measured. Recently, HBO chief content officer Casey Bloys talked about the show and its legacy with Parrot Analytics. What’s the future of the franchise look like? Game of Thrones only concluded in 2019, although it feels like it’s been much longer. Nevertheless, people still talk about it plenty, to the point where it was the most in-demand show of 2020 despite being a year gone. And the wave of fantasy shows that have come in its wake — The Witcher, His Dark Materials, the upcoming Wheel of Time and Lord of the Rings series — show how much the rest of Hollywood wants to follow in its footsteps.
