Austria genre and subgenre preferences for series
- Austrians gave the largest share of demand to children’s content in this report. 13.6% of demand for shows in Q2 2023 was for a children’s series.
- With a 14.4% share of demand, animation reached its second largest share of demand in Austria of all markets in this report.
- Less than a third of demand for shows in Austria was for drama series (32.3%). This was the second lowest share of demand for drama in this report.
- The pre-school age subgenre ranked higher in Austria than in any other market in this report as the fourth most in-demand subgenre in Q2 2023.
- School-age content also reached its highest rank in Austria (in addition to three other markets in this report) where it ranked as the third most in-demand subgenre, underscoring the demand for children’s content here.
- Both Japanese anime and animated sitcom ranked in the ten most in-demand subgenres in Austria for the quarter, showing that high demand for animated content in this market spans a range of subgenres.
Austria originals share of demand and demand distribution
- Several Turkish series broke through with audiences in Austria this quarter. In particular, shows from the Turkish channel Show TV were successful and accounted for nearly 2% of demand for all shows in Austria.
- Nickelodeon shows resonated in Austria where they drove 2.4% of demand for all series. This was the largest share of demand for the platform in this report, which it also reached in its home market, the U.S.
- ABC series like The Rookie succeeded in Austria and helped the platform make up 3.5% of demand for all series in Q2, the largest share of demand for ABC content in this report outside of the U.S.
- The long-running German children’s series, Die Sendung mit der Maus topped the ranking as the most in-demand show in Austria in Q2 2023 with 12.2 times the average series
demand. - One Love (Kızılcık Şerbeti), a Turkish series from Show TV, found success in Austria where it ranked as the tenth most in-demand show for the quarter. Austria was the only market in this report where this series ranked in the top 100 most in-demand shows.
- Auf Streife, was the most in-demand show in Austria from the German channel Sat.1. The scripted reality police series had 6 times the average series demand and ranked as the 21st most in-demand show overall in Austria this quarter.
