Norway genre and subgenre preferences for series

  • Norway was market with the second largest share of demand for the reality genre in this report. The 13.8% share of demand for the reality genre in Norway was less than only the United States in this report.
  • Norway was tied with Venezuela for the largest share of demand for the variety genre in this report. Both countries gave 4.3% of demand for series this quarter to the variety genre.
  • Norway had the second smallest share of demand for the drama genre. 34.1% of demand for all series was for a drama.

  • Sitcom ranked as the second most in-demand subgenre in Norway in Q3 2023. Only in the US did this subgenre rank higher in this report.
  • Competition reality ranked as the eighth most in-demand subgenre in Norway for the quarter. This type of reality series helped to drive high demand for the reality genre overall in Norway.
  • Low demand for dramas overall is reflected in the fact that only three of the ten most in-demand subgenres in Norway for the quarter are drama subgenres–crime drama, sci-fi drama, and fantasy drama.

Norway originals share of demand and demand distribution

  • Netflix’s share of demand for its original series in Norway (6.2%) puts it ahead of other platforms in this market. However, 6.2% was a smaller share of demand for Netflix originals than in any other market in this report.
  • CBS originals found receptive audiences in Norway. These shows accounted for 6.0% of demand in this market, which is a greater share of demand than in any other market in this report and above the global share of demand for CBS content (4.4%).
  • Shows from a Discovery branded channel or platform made up 2.7% of demand for shows in reality-loving Norway. Only in the US did these shows account for a larger share of demand.

  • Taskmaster was the third most in-demand show in Norway for the quarter. It had 12.3 times the average series demand and ranked higher here than in any other market we covered.
  • The popularity of the Below Deck franchise in Norway, including Below Deck Mediterranean (8.4x) , is another example of high demand for reality content in this market.
  • The Amazon Prime Video coming-of-age drama, The Summer I Turned Pretty, released its second season in July and captured the attention of Norwegian audiences. The show ranked higher here than in any other market in this report as the 28th most in-demand show for the quarter with 8.3 times the average series demand.
