Singapore genre and subgenre preferences for series

  • Singapore stood apart in this report with the largest share of demand for the animation genre. 14.6% ofdemand for series was for an animated series, which is well above the global share of demand for thisgenre–12.2%.
  • Singapore had one of the lowest demand shares for the comedy genre. Only 12.4% of demand for series was for a comedy in this market compared to a 13.6% share globally.
  • Audiences in Singapore also gave an above average share of demand to the reality genre in Q3 2023 (10.2%), above the global share of demand for reality series (9.3%).

  • Singapore was the only market in this report where Japanese animation ranked as the most in-demand subgenre. It was the only animation subgenre to rank in the top ten in this market and was the main driver behind Singapore’s high demand for animation overall.
  • Singapore was one of only three markets in this report where crime drama was not the most in-demand subgenre of the quarter. In fact, the total demand for the crime drama subgenre was only 56% of the demand for Japanese animation in Singapore this quarter.
  • Singapore was one of two markets in this report where superhero series ranked among the ten most in-demand subgenres for the quarter.

Singapore originals share of demand and demand distribution

  • Singapore was the only market in this report where Tokyo MX ranked among the top 15 platforms by demand share. High demand in Singapore for anime helped to boost this Japanese channel’s demand share in this market (2.6%).
  • 3.6% of demand in Singapore this quarter was for an Apple TV+ original. This is the platform’s second largest share of demand across markets in this report. A trio of Apple TV+ originals (Foundation, Ted Lasso,and Silo) all ranked in the top 20 most in-demand shows of the quarter here.
  • Shows from a Disney branded channel or platform made up 5.2% of demand in Singapore. This was Disney’s second largest share of demand in this report.

  • Jujustsu Kaisen ranked as the most in-demand show of the quarter in anime-loving Singapore. It had 15.4 times the average series demand in this period.
  • High demand for Japanese anime in Singapore spilled over into anime adjacent content as well. Netflix’s live action adaptation of One Piece ranked higher here than in any other market in this report. As did the anime inspired American series Invincible and My Adventures with Superman.
  • An iQiyi original series ranked among the 50 most in-demand shows in Singapore for the quarter. My Journey to You had 6.9 times the average series demand and ranked as the 38th most in-demand show, higher than in any other market in this report.
