Venezuela genre and subgenre preferences for series

  • Venezuela had by far the largest share of demand for children’s content in this report. Nearly a quarter of demand for shows (23.8%) was for children’s series in Q3 2023.
  • Venezuela was tied with Norway for the largest share of demand for the variety genre in this report. Both countries gave 4.3% of demand for series this quarter to the variety genre.
  • The share of demand for comedy in Venezuela was notably smaller than in other markets. Venezuelan audiences only gave an 8.0% share of demand to comedies compared to a global demand share of 13.6% for this genre.

  • Venezuela was unique in this report as the only market where soap opera ranked as the most in-demand subgenre for the quarter.
  • Reflecting overall high demand for children’s content in Venezuela, both the pre-school age and cartoon subgenres ranked higher here than in any other market in this report (3rdand 5th respectively).
  • Venezuela was unique in this report as the only market where the news factual subgenre ranked among the ten most in-demand subgenres for the quarter.

Venezuela originals share of demand and demand distribution

  • Venezuela was the only market in this report where Netflix did not have the largest share of demand for its original series in Q3 2023. Instead, Disney topped the ranking with a 7.6% share of demand.
  • Several channels from around Latin America, including Las Estrellas (6.7%) and Caracol Television (2.7%), accounted for a large share of demand for series in Venezuela, underscoring the popularity of content imported from around the region.
  • Series from the local Venezuelan channel, Venevisión, accounted for 1.8% of demand for series in Venezuela.

  • Despite Venezuela’s lower than average share of demand for the reality genre, a number of reality series from across the Spanish speaking world had high demand here such as Got Talent Espana, La Academia, and Gran Hermano Chile. This seems to indicate that Venezuelans are looking abroad to satisfy their demand for reality content.
  • Hercai, a Turkish drama, found fans halfway around the world in Venezuela where it ranked as the 19th most in-demand show of Q3 2023.
  • Two dramas from Las Estrellas, La Rosa de Guadalupe and Overcoming Guilt, had high demand in Venezuela this quarter. These shows ranked higher here than in any other market in this report–3rd and 32nd respectively.
