David Bishop

David Bishop is recognized as an industry consumer-product-launch icon and digital media business leader. With a track record of leading corporations to exponential revenue growth, David has served as President to both Sony Pictures Home Entertainment and MGM Home Entertainment. At Sony, he successfully took the industry lead in the launch and exploitation of both Blu Ray and digital distribution market platforms, contributing to over $20 billion in gross revenues for Sony Pictures even during the recession and the decline of DVD markets. As President and Chief Operating Officer of MGM Home Entertainment, David anticipated and led the industry in the DVD market revolution, increasing MGM Home Entertainment revenues from $300 Million to $1 Billion.

As a testament to his visionary status, David anticipated nation-wide market shifts, and despite the stunning financial success of DVDs, led Sony’s transition away from dependence on the DVDs market and into the digital distribution revolution. Launching new products and new product categories, David has been at the forefront of three major industry revolutions - DVD, Blu Ray and digital distribution - defining markets, maximizing revenues, honing operations while marshalling other studios/industry leaders to develop and accept product standards that made market growth possible.

At Sony Pictures Home Entertainment (SPHE), Mr. Bishop oversaw all aspects of the worldwide home entertainment division, including sales, marketing and operations. Mr. Bishop joined Sony Pictures in 2006 as President of Worldwide Brand Integration for Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE), responsible for the integration of MGM assets over the various SPE worldwide distribution entities. He was subsequently named President of North America for SPHE, where he oversaw all aspects of the North American business as well as the international operations of the MGM catalogue.

Prior to joining SPE, Mr. Bishop was President and Chief Operating Officer of MGM Home Entertainment, where his career spanned more than 15 years. At MGM, he oversaw worldwide operations for the home entertainment division which included home video and DVD, consumer products, online, interactive games, video-on-demand, pay-per-view and emerging technologies groups as well as MGM’s international theatrical marketing and distribution unit.

Before joining MGM Home Entertainment, he spent three years at LIVE home video where he was responsible for US and Canadian home video operations and eventually became President and Chief Operating Officer. As the head of LIVE Home Video, Mr. Bishop built the company into the largest independent distributor in the industry.
