In this article we look at the top breakout shows of the past week. Breakout shows are the most in-demand series that have premiered in the past 100 days.
Paramount+'s Rabbit Hole made it into the top five this week after another 11% increase in demand pushed it up the ranking from its position in ninth place. As mentioned last week, political/spy thrillers seem to have a firm hold on U.S. audience attention since the last few days. A closer look at the data for Rabbit Hole reveals that it has been steadily growing in demand among U.S. audiences since its premiere on March 26. The 11% spike that was observed this week came after its third episode aired on April 02, where viewers were given a glimpse into the main character's past and his career in corporate espionage; considering how demand for the series has been tracking and the way audiences are reacting to it, we expect to see the show in the ranking every week until its finale. As of this week, it had 21.5 times the average series demand in the U.S.
While The Last of Us managed to hold on to its position at the top of the ranking for yet another week, the series had another 12% decline in demand brought its demand down to 42.2 times the average. As mentioned last week, it's highly likely that we will see the show de-throned from first place over the next few weeks - hot on its tail we see Netflix's The Night Agent with 39.2 times the average series demand. The show had another 9% increase in demand which saw it climb up to second place in the ranking this week. The increase in demand can be explained by viewers finally catching up to all the episodes in its second week post-release. It remains to be seen if the show will continue commanding the level of audience attention that it has so far in its third week.
Daisy Jones & The Six lost its position to The Night Agent and slid to third place this week as audiences moved on to other content and the show suffered a 24% decline in demand. It has still had an impressive performance, and had 31.3 times the average series demand in the U.S. for the week. Most other shows in the ranking this week saw a decline in demand. TV Tokyo's Trigun Stampede managed to maintain its position in fourth place despite a 5% decline which put it at 21.6 times the average series demand. Since its finale on March 25, demand for the show has begun tracking down although we don't expect to see it slide off the ranking atleast for a few more weeks given its current level of demand.
Other shows that had a noticeable decline in demand this week were Shrinking (-8%), Poker Face (-4%) and Gotham Knights (-8%). With the exception of Gotham Knights which is still in the midst of releasing episodes, the decline for the other two series is not surprising since they aired their finale episodes some time ago. Since Gotham Knights is set to air episodes until April 25, the decline this week is likely just a lull in audience attention and we do expect to see some spikes as it heads closer to its finale in the coming weeks. Rounding out the ranking we see The Ark and Bebefinn back on the chart in ninth and tenth place this week. The comeback of these two shows isn't because of a significant increase in demand, but seems to have occurred only due to Swarm and The History of the World, Part ll sliding off the chart this week.
