In this article we look at the top breakout shows of the past week. Breakout shows are the most in-demand series that have premiered in the past 100 days.
Two series that have been mainstays in the top breakout shows ranking wrapped up their first season this week. The Wheel of Time released its season finale on December 19th and Hawkeye concluded on December 22nd. Hawkeye's season one has been entirely concurrent with The Wheel of Time. Because The Wheel of Time has had consistently higher demand, Hawkeye has not yet topped any of our weekly charts tracking the top shows in the US, making it the only live action Disney+ Marvel series to not top the weekly rankings. However if demand for the Marvel series is longer lasting than The Wheel of Time, it could still move into the number one spot if The Wheel of Time loses audiences' attention faster following its finale.
Station Eleven entered the ranking of the ten most in-demand breakout series in the US this week in 9th place. It had 16.8 times the average series demand for the week. This is more than three times its demand last week following the release of its first three episodes on December 16th.
Demand for Mayor of Kingstown continued to rise this week, up 7% from last week. The show still has two episodes remaining in its season and is scheduled to conclude on January 2. With interest in Arcane rapidly declining, Mayor of Kingstown seems poised to take the 3rd spot, after consistently closing the gap in demand between it and Arcane over the past few weeks.
Squid Game is currently the oldest show among the top ten breakout series for the week, having premiered on September 17th. The fact that it still has 21.9 times the demand of the average series and is the fifth most in-demand breakout show nearly 100 days after its premiere is proof of the impact it made and its lasting popularity.
