In this article we look at the top breakout shows of the past week. Breakout shows are the most in-demand series that have premiered in the past 100 days.
The most in-demand show in the US for the past week was Netflix's Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story. Last week the show came very close to overtaking House of the Dragon but this week Monster's demand surpassed it by a substantial margin. With 61 times the average series demand, demand for the show was up by 22% from last week. Demand for Monster only peaked on October 4th, two weeks after its September 21st premiere on Netflix, showing how the series was not only an immediate hit but was also able to grow its audience as word about it spread.
Demand for House of the Dragon remained exactly the same as last week at 52.8x. The show has successfully maintained a similarly high level of demand each week. Now, with three episodes in the season left, it remains to be seen if it can build momentum going into its finale.
Two other series from major franchises, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power both grew in demand by less than 5% this week. Both series have one final episode to be released in their first season. This may give them a final spike in demand, but a crowded field means audience attention is currently stretched thin so competition will be high.
Demand for Andor fizzled this week. It was the only show in the top ten that saw a double digit decline in its demand from last week, down 11%. Scheduled to release episodes through the end of November, the show has a large window of time to regain the ground it lost this week. Additionally, it looks set to benefit from the four shows currently ranked ahead of it fading in demand as they conclude their first seasons in the coming weeks.
Two new series showed up in the top ten breakout shows ranking this week. Interview with the Vampire and The Serpent Queen ranked as the eighth and tenth most in-demand recent releases respectively. This is the first week of data on AMC's Interview with a Vampire since it premiered on October 2nd. Scheduled to release episodes through mid-November, the show looks well positioned to benefit from increased demand for scary cotnent in October. Starz's period drama, The Serpent Queen, seems to be finally coming into its own. After premiering on September 11th, it has grown in demand to this week when it reached 17 times the demand of the average series.
