Are global streaming television ratings really required today given the new business models focused on subscriber acquisition and preventing platform churn? We believe that a much better question to ask in today’s fragmented and global content world, is: “What content do people really want”. Parrot Analytics’ Demand Expression metric answers this question on a country specific basis. Let us now take a look at the US domestic market.
Top 10 Digital Originals:
Former top shows Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and 11.22.63 have decreased in demand so that the popular Fuller House is the most in-demand digital original series this week.
Netflix dominates the top ten list this week, with all titles but Hulu’s two most recent releases.
Amazon’s The Man in the High Castle was replaced by Netflix’s documentary Making a Murderer this week, meaning that for the first time Amazon has no titles in the top ten.
Top 10 Overall:
Unsurprisingly, the sixth season of Game of Thrones increased its demand to more than double the demand for former champion The Walking Dead.
The Walking Dead and its spinoff Fear the Walking Dead have nearly the same average demand this week.
As many of the top ten shows have decreased in demand slightly, the long-running America’s Funniest Home Videos broke into the top ten shows for the first time.
