SVoD titles in Spanish and Portuguese almost tripled since 2022

21 January, 2026

The volume of Spanish- and Portuguese-language content carried by global streaming services has nearly tripled over the past three years, according to Parrot Analytics.

As a result, the amount of revenue generated by such content has doubled since 2022, Alejandro Rojas, the data and insights firm’s VP of applied analytics, told C21’s Content Americas.

Netflix, Prime Video, HBO Max, Hulu, Disney+, Apple TV, Paramount+ and SkyShowtime’s combined Spanish and Portuguese catalogues run to around 5,000 titles. Those generate a total of around US$1.2bn in revenue, up from around US$600m in 2022.

That growth is driven partly by movies, said Rojas, who added that “Spanish and Portuguese movies are no longer marginal.”

In 2025, those movies represented 55% of all titles, up from 40% in 2022, and generated 42% of revenue, compared with 18% in 2022, according to Parrot Analytics. “It’s clear that Spanish or Portuguese movies are a way to break through and sell to these international streamers,” said Rojas.

Another factor driving the growth in Spanish-language content is increased licensing activity among the streamers.

“Originals tend to have [bigger] marketing dollars, but licensed content is driving better results,” said Rojas, who noted that revenue generated by licensed Spanish- and Portuguese-language content has jumped from accounting for 20% of revenues in 2022 to 40% in 2025.

This shift has taken place as streamers become “savvier” about how to license Spanish and Portuguese content.

The combination of these shifts has created two new opportunities for producers, suggested Rojas.

Firstly, he expects to see more film coproductions as Spanish-language movies become more relevant on streaming services internationally. Secondly, producers should push to hold on to some international rights when their projects are first commissioned.

“You should think about how you can carve out international rights, because that could be valuable, especially because the demand for content in Spanish and Portuguese is growing. If you’re a producer, think about how you can protect these rights, so you can potentially license it to these international streamers,” he said.
