Belgium genre and subgenre preferences for series

• Belgium had the second largest share of demand for the action/adventure genre of markets in this report (7.1%).
• With a 4.2% share of demand, variety series made up a smaller share of demand in Belgium than in any other market we covered.
• Animated content accounted for 10.2% of demand for series in Belgium. This was the genre’s second smallest share of demand in this report.

• Belgium was one of three markets in this report where crime drama ranked as the most in-demand subgenre for the quarter. It had substantially higher demand than the second ranked subgenre, sitcom.
• The fantasy drama subgenre ranked higher in Belgium than in any other market in this report as the sixth most in-demand subgenre.
• Belgium was one of two market in this report where the sci-fi drama subgenre achieved its highest rank as the fourth most in-demand subgenre. This highlights how a variety of dramatic subgenres have resonated with Belgian audiences.

Belgium originals share of demand and demand distribution

• HBO series drove a larger share of demand in Belgium (6.6%) than in any other market in this report. Succession was the most in-demand of these shows this quarter and ranked as the second most in-demand show overall in Belgium. 
• Local content from Belgian broadcaster VTM accounted for 3.1% of demand for all series in Belgium in Q2 2023.
• BBC series found fans in Belgium where the British broadcaster’s series made up a larger share of demand than in any other market in this report (3.8%).

• The Mandalorian, from Disney+, was successful in Belgium this quarter where it ranked as the most in-demand show overall with 14.7 times the average series demand. This was the show’s highest rank in this report.
• HBO’s Succession, was the second most in-demand show in Belgium in Q2 2023 and had 14.1 times the average series demand. Including Succession, four of the ten most in-demand shows in Belgium were HBO originals and helped drive high demand overall for HBO content.  
• The Voice Kids (BE) from local channel VTM, had 9.1 times the average series demand and ranked as the 11th most in-demand show in Belgium for the quarter.
