Latvia genre and subgenre preferences for series

• Latvian audiences gave a 15.5% share of demand for all series to comedies in Q3 2023. This is the second highest share of demand for the genre in this report, just behind Lithuania (16.0%).
• The share of demand that Latvian audiences gave to the documentary genre (1.7%) was well below the global share of demand for this genre (5.0%).
• Latvia was one of only two markets in this report where the variety genre made up less than 2% of demand for all series. The 1.9% share of demand for this genre was less than the 3.2% global share of demand for variety series.

• The comedy drama subgenre reached its highest rank in Latvia of markets in this report. It ranked as the fourth most in-demand subgenre of the quarter here.
• Animated sitcom ranked higher in Latvia than in any other market in this report as the sixth most in-demand subgenre.
• Compared to other Baltic countries, the sci-fi drama ranked several spots lower in Latvia in Q3 2023. It was the eighth most in-demand subgenre in this market.

Latvia originals share of demand and demand distribution

• Latvian audiences gave a larger share of attention to ITV originals than any other market in this report. ITV series were responsible for 2.1% of demand for all shows in Latvia in Q3 2023.
• BBC content, however, did not overperform in Latvia. The share of demand for the British broadcaster’s originals in Latvia (2.9%) was among the lowest in this report and well below the BBC’s share of global demand (3.5%).
• Originals from the Russian streamer, Premier, made up 1.9% of demand for shows in Latvia in Q3 2023. This platform was just one source imported Russian content that was in demand in this market.

• Russian content excelled in Latvia this quarter. Not only was Masha and the Bear the most in-demand show (as in several other markets) but The Fixies ranked higher here than in any other market in this report as the second most in-demand show with 11x the average series demand.
• Original content from several Russian streaming services had high demand in Latvia. Live Life, from the Russian streamer Start, ranked as the 33rd most in-demand show and had 4.5 times the average series demand.
• Ukhozhu Krasivo, an original from the Russian platform Wink, had 4.3 times the average series demand in Q3 2023 in Latvia. It also ranked higher here than in any other market in this report.
