Parrot Analytics’ SVOD measurement service is not only able to gauge the demand for TV content delivered by OTT platforms anywhere in the world, the system is also able to measure global TV series popularity on linear broadcast networks as well; this is achieved by providing cross-platform and globally standardized TV popularity data across the entire TV ecosystem.
This past week’s demand chart shows little change among the top five Digital Original series in the United States save for Dark and Marvel’s The Punisher switching positions. Both titles dipped in demand compared to the week prior, -7% and -24% respectively, per our SVOD measurement service. Making a reappearance in the ranking at #7 is Netflix’s The Ranch, after the second part of Season 2 was released December 15th. Released on the same date and debuting in the ranking at #9 is fellow Netflix Original Wormwood. The docudrama miniseries follows a scientist participating in a secret government biological warfare program.
Among the overall chart, the top 4 titles remained unchanged, with The Walking Dead still topping the charts though decreasing in demand by 12% week over week. Currently in its 5th season, demand for historical drama Vikings increased 11% over the previous week, driving the series up two spots to #5. Unlike several other series in the ranking, Vikings is not on hiatus releasing new weekly episodes throughout the holidays. New to the Top 10 overall chart is Peaky Blinders, appearing at #8. Currently in its 4th season, the British television crime drama’s season finale premiered on the 20th of December, driving the demand for the series up by 48% beating out Top #10 regular, animated science fiction sitcom Rick & Morty.
